The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) Elections 2021 for the Council and the Regional Councils are scheduled to be held on December 3, 2021 in cities having more than 2500 members and on December 4, 2021 at all other places in terms of the provisions of Rule 21 of the Chartered Accountants (Election to the Council) Rules, 2006.

Overview of the election process being organised by the Election Cell of ICAI for smooth conduct of the ‘ICAI Elections 2021’.

  • Time of Voting

The voting process is short and simple. On the day of voting, you can cast your precious vote at your allotted polling booth anytime between 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM.

  • Carry CA Membership Card

The voters are supposed to carry their respective Photo Identity Proof i.e. CA Membership Card. In case, you do not have your  CA Membership Card, you need to carry other Identity Proof like Aadhar Card, Passport, Voter ID Card, or PAN card with you.

  • Polling officer will confirm your name

Inside the Polling Booth, the polling officer will confirm your name from the voting list of eligible CA members. On verifying your name and other credentials 2 ballot papers shall be handed over to you.

  • Ballot Papers

The polling officer shall hand over to you  2 ballot papers, one for Central Council and other one for Regional Council. The Ballot Papers shall consist of the list of candidates in the alphabetical order who are contesting from your constituency. The names would have a corresponding box so that you can mark your preference in the box and the marking has to be in Arabic Numerals.

  • Secret Chambers

Every polling booth shall consist of secret chambers. You can cast your vote inside the chamber as per your preference. 

  • Preferential Voting

In the ICAI Elections there is a system of Preferential Voting. The candidates can vote on the preferential basis. For example, write number 1 against the name of the candidate who is in your first preference, similarly number 2 for the candidate who is your second preference and so on. It is noteworthy, you can only use Arabic Numerals and Roman Numerals, words or any other mark will not be counted. Then fold your ballot paper and put it in the respective ballot boxes.
