The Institute of Cost Accountants of India (ICMAI) has officially announced a three-month extension for its practicing members to fulfill the mandatory 14 Continuous Professional Education (CPE) credit hours in physical mode to be undertaken for the annual renewal of the Certificate of Practice (COP) for the year from 1 April, 2024 to 31 March, 2025.
The extension comes as a boon to ICMAI members who had fallen short of the mandated requirement of 14 physical CPE hours out of a total of 30 CPE credit hours.
The Certificate of Practice (COP) is a crucial accreditation issued by ICMAI, enabling cost accountants to offer professional services to clients seeking their services. The COP enhances trust, reliability and in essence, licenses the practitioners to render professional services.

In order to maintain the validity of the COP, members are required to engage in the CPE, a structured learning process that keeps professionals updated with industry trends, regulations, and best practices. The CPE mechanism is conducted on an annual basis, with the latest guidelines requiring members to complete 30 CPE credit hours between April 1, 2024, and March 31, 2025, of which a minimum of 14 credit hours must be attended in physical mode through in-person programs or workshops.

The extension has been granted to members upon ICMAI’s observation that a significant number of practicing members had not met the 14-hour physical mode requirement by the stipulated deadline of March 31, 2025. To prevent disruptions in COP renewals and ensure compliance, the ICMAI Council has extended the deadline by a quarter year to June 30, 2025.
For the CPE hours required for the period between 1 April, 2025 and 31 March, 2026, members have been directed to inform the Professional Development & Continuous Professional Education Directorate during the first quarter of the Financial Year whether the credit hours are to be adjusted towards the 2024-25 or 2025-26 period.
