The Income Tax Department today released an updated list of banks integrated with the e-Pay Tax service on its e-Filing portal, as a measure towards its continued efforts to streamline the tax payment process for taxpayers across India.

The e-Pay Tax service allows individuals and businesses to pay their income tax, TDS, and other direct taxes digitally through the e-Filing portal. It ensures seamless, secure, and real-time tax payments without the need for taxpayers to physically visit banks.

The e-Filing portal is managed by the Income Tax Department and serves as a digital platform where taxpayers can file their income tax returns, track refunds, and undertake other processes in compliance with prevailing tax regulations. The integration of multiple banks into the e-Pay Tax service enhances convenience and accessibility for taxpayers and further enhances the role of e-Portal as a one-stop solution for taxpayers.

Tamilnad Mercantile Bank Limited has become the most recent addition to the list, having been enabled for the e-Pay Tax service today, March 5, 2025. This move is expected to benefit the customers centred around the Tamil Nadu region where the Bank commands the strongest presence.

Among the 30 banks included in the e-Pay Tax service, some of the most prominent names are State Bank of India, which was enabled on April 1, 2023, along with HDFC Bank on the same date.

ICICI Bank and Axis Bank were integrated earlier on November 1, 2022, while Punjab National Bank joined on December 1, 2022. These nationalized banks, among others, have played a significant role in simplifying digital tax transactions for Indian taxpayers by providing secure and seamless online payment options.
