With the Maharashtra assembly elections fast approaching, the Pune office of the Income Tax ( IT ) Department has launched a special campaign aimed at preventing the misuse of funds by candidates during the election period.

As part of this campaign, the IT Department has set up a control room dedicated to monitoring potential financial irregularities associated with election spending. In a bid to involve the public in ensuring transparency, the department has also introduced toll-free helplines—18002330353 and 18002330354—where citizens can report any suspected malpractices. Additionally, individuals can share complaints via WhatsApp by sending messages, videos, or photos to 9421546484.

The campaign extends beyond Pune to cover multiple districts, including Palghar, Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Solapur, Satara, Sangli, Sindhudurg, Kolhapur, and Ahilya Devinagar. Residents in these areas are urged to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity they come across. Complaints can also be submitted through email or in person at the IT Department’s office.

This announcement follows the Central Election Commission’s declaration of the assembly election schedule. Maharashtra, with 288 assembly seats, will go to the polls on November 20 in a single phase, while Jharkhand will hold elections in two phases on November 13 and 20. Vote counting for both states is set for November 23. With the election dates confirmed, the Model Code of Conduct is now in effect across both states.
