Income Tax Return: CBDT notifies ITR Form V for AY 2025-26 [Read Notification]

The taxpayer must affirm the accuracy of the information submitted and verify the return via Aadhaar OTP, net banking, EVC, or by sending a signed ITR-V to CPC Bengaluru by speed post.

The Central Board of Direct Taxes ( CBDT ) has issued the revised ITR form V for the Assessment Year 2025-26.

The Ministry of Finance notification dated May 7, 2025, brings into effect the Income-tax (Seventeenth Amendment) Rules, 2025, with effect from April 1, 2025.

Major changes involve the replacement of new forms for Form ITR-V (Indian Income Tax Return Verification Form) and Income Tax Return Acknowledgement. The new ITR-V form is to be filled in if return information in Form ITR-1 (SAHAJ), ITR-2, ITR-3, ITR-4 (SUGAM), ITR-5, or ITR-7 is submitted but not e-verified.

The taxpayer is required to solemnly affirm that the information submitted is accurate and comprehensive, and it can be authenticated through Aadhaar OTP, net banking, EVC, or by emailing a signed ITR-V to the Centralized Processing Centre in Bengaluru through speed post.

The new Acknowledgement form is issued when the return is both filed and verified, capturing major details like PAN, total income, tax payable, and refund status. The above change is intended to simplify the filing and verification process, improve clarity, and ensure all processes are done within specified time limits for the assessment year 2025-26.
