The Ministry of Finance on June 3, 2025, issued Notification No. 54/2025, announcing that the Secretary to the Government of Maharashtra, Women and Child Development Department, is authorized to access income-tax data for the purpose of identifying eligible beneficiaries under the Mukhyamantri Mazi Ladki Bahin Yojana.

The notification, issued under Section 138(1)(a)(ii) of the Income-tax Act, 1961, enables the sharing of taxpayer information between the Central Government and the Maharashtra state government to support the implementation of the scheme. This legal provision allows such data to be shared with state authorities for specific public interest purposes.

About the Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana:

Launched by the Government of Maharashtra in July 2024, the Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana aims to empower economically disadvantaged women in the state by providing them with financial assistance.

Key Features:

Monthly Financial Assistance: Eligible women receive Rs. 1,500 per month, totaling Rs. 18,000 annually, directly transferred to their bank accounts through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Residency: Applicant must be a resident of Maharashtra.
  • Gender and Age: Women aged between 21 and 65 years.
  • Marital Status: Includes married, widowed, divorced, abandoned, destitute, and one unmarried woman per family.
  • Income: Annual family income should not exceed Rs. 2.5 lakh.
  • Bank Account: Applicants must have an Aadhaar-linked bank account.
  • Exclusions: Women are ineligible if any family member is an income taxpayer, holds a government job or pension, owns a four-wheeler (excluding tractors), or receives ₹1,500 or more per month from another government financial assistance scheme.
  • Application Process: Applications can be submitted online through the official website or offline via local centers such as Anganwadi, Ward Offices, or Aaple Sarkar Seva Kendras.
  • Required Documents: Applicants need to provide an Aadhaar card linked with a bank account, a domicile certificate or alternatives (like a 15-year-old ration card or voter ID), an income certificate (if applicable), and a passport-size photograph.

The scheme is part of the Maharashtra government's initiative to promote women's economic independence, improve their health and nutrition, and strengthen their role in the family and society.

The notification was signed by Castro Jayaprakash T., Under Secretary to the Government of India, and published in the Gazette of India as an extraordinary notification. The move is expected to enhance the transparency, efficiency, and accountability of the scheme’s rollout.
