As per the new Notification issued by the Director General of Foreign Trade ( DGFT ), export certificates issued by the India Oilseeds & Produce Export Council ( IOPEC ) required for the export of Sesame Seeds to the USA.
The Directorate exercising its powers under Section 3 and Section 5 of the Foreign Trade (Development & Regulation) Act, 1992, and in alignment with the Foreign Trade Policy 2023, has announced updates to the export policy for sesame seeds to the United States.

This notification, which also follows earlier notifications from 2016, introduces new policy conditions that will come into effect on 16th November 2024.
Under the updated policy, the India Oilseeds & Produce Export Promotion Council ( IOPEPC ) is designated as the competent authority for issuing export certificates required for sesame seed exports [HS Code 12074010 (sesame seed) and HS Code 12074090 (Other)] to the USA.
IOPEPC will issue these export certifications within two working days of receiving a request, provided the exporter submits a valid ‘Certificate of Analysis’ from a NABL-accredited laboratory.

The guidelines and procedures is to ensure the control of pesticide residue contamination in sesame seeds exported to the USA are detailed in the document titled Procedure for Control of Contamination of Residues of Pesticides in Sesame Seeds for Export to United States of America (USA), published by the Department of Commerce on 10th July 2024.
