India’s Telecom industry expects vital tax reforms from the upcoming interim Budget. The industry expects changes and modifications to address the existing challenges faced by the telecom sector and propel it towards a resilient and financially robust future.

The experts expect necessary changes to address the industry’s requirements by adopting a favourable tax regime and other supportive measures, in continuance of the progressive, reforms-based approach adopted by the government in recent years.

The industry earnestly urges the DoT to initiate a comprehensive consultation process on the matters surrounding adjusted gross revenue ( AGR ). It was also suggested to ensure that revenue generated from activities not requiring a license is explicitly excluded from the gross revenue calculation which ultimately helps in creating a fair and balanced regulatory framework for the telecom sector.
