Jagannath Bidyadhar Mohapatra to discharge duties of CBDT Chairman until Appointment of a Regular Chairman

The Government has appointed Jagannath Bidyadhar Mohapatra to discharge duties of Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) Chairman until the appointment of a regular Chairman.

Presently, the Chairman of CBDT is Mr. Pramod Chandra Mody, who is a 1982-batch Indian Revenue Service officer, was appointed as the CBDT chief in February 2019.

Earlier the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved an extension in the re-appointment of Mr. Pramod Chandra Mody as Chairman, Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), for a further period of three months with effect from March 1, 2021, to May 31, 2021.

For the administrative and policy-making body for the Income Tax Department, CBDT the government has notified that CBDT member Jagannath Bidyadhar Mohapatra shall discharge duties of CBDT Chairman, in addition to his own duties for a period of 3 months or till the appointment of a regular Chairman.

Last Week, the Government notified the three new members namely 1984 batch IRS officer Rashmi Saxena Sahni and 1985 batch IRS officers JB Mohapatra and Anuja Sarangi are going to be the next 3 new board members.

Mohapatra has been the principal chief commissioner of the Andhra Pradesh and Telangana region. Mohapatra will retire in April next year and Sarangi will superannuate in May 2023.
