The Karnataka Taxpayers Association, today (Tuesday, 29.04.2025) addressed a letter to the Revenue citing technical glitches with the online portal for payment of professional tax, while also requesting for an extension of the deadline for payment, which is 30.04.2025 as of now.
The Karnataka State Tax Practitioners Association (KSTPA) is a statewide body representing over 2,500 tax professionals across 31 district associations. Founded under the leadership of Sri Hombal, it supports tax practitioners through education, advocacy, and professional development. KSTPA also engages in community-building, environmental, and cultural initiatives, promoting both professional excellence and social responsibility.

KSTPA raises concerns and suggestions on behalf of its members to ensure that their voices are heard in matters affecting taxation and compliance.
The letter has been addressed to the Commissioner of Commercial Taxes, Government of Karnataka, Bengaluru with a Carbon Copy (CC) addressed to the Hon’ble Finance Minister, Government of Karnataka as well.

The key issues highlighted by the issue includes severe technical glitches and a faulty OTP authentication system within the online portal, which has inadvertently hampered a significant number of taxpayers to complete the professional tax payment and compliance obligations.
In light of the concerns, the Karnataka Taxpayers Association has requested the Revenue to ‘take immediate steps to rectify the portal and ensure smooth functioning of the OTP system’ and to ‘extend the due date of professional tax payment by an additional three months to accommodate affected taxpayers and avoid penalties’.

Members of the tax fraternity have often voiced out against the numerous glitches and payment hitches faced by them while navigating the concerned websites, often even leading to litigation to seek remedies against unscrupulous proceedings from the Revenue. Whether the request shall be granted is an answer that is awaited.
