The Union Law Minister, Ravi Shankar Prasad inaugurated the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal ( ITAT ) second Circuit Bench, at Dehradun, on Thursday.
The ITAT Dehradun bench would be the second bench in Uttar Pradesh after Varanasi, said the Tribunal in a press release.
“The ITAT Circuit Bench at Dehradun shall cater to the appeals arising from the State of Uttarakhand. Hitherto, the appeals and applications under the income tax arising from the area of Uttarakhand were falling within the jurisdiction of Delhi Benches,” the statement added.
Taxpayers and tax professionals were required to travel from Uttarakhand to New Delhi to attend to their appeals, but with the setting up of the second Circuit Bench the difficulty will be removed, resulting in quicker and easier justice for taxpayers in the state.
It was also said in the statement that the new tribunal will also help the economic growth in Uttarakhand as it will open up new professional opportunities for the chartered accountants and tax lawyers.
