Telangana, once known for its rapid economic growth, has now recorded the lowest Goods and Services Tax (GST) revenue growth among all Indian states, according to recent Union Government data. The national average GST growth stood at 10% but Telangana’s revenue ceased, placing it at the bottom of the list.

Comparatively, Telangana’s GST revenue growth was the lowest, signaling a slowdown in the state’s financial health.
Even large states such as Karnataka (10%), Maharashtra (13%), and Chhattisgarh (7%) performed better than Telangana.

Nationally, GST collections have shown a positive trend. In February 2025, gross GST collections rose by 9.1% to approximately Rs.1.84 lakh crore, driven by domestic consumption and indicating potential economic revival.
Telangana’s economic slowdown comes as a major shock, considering the state was once one of the fastest-growing economies in the country. Experts attribute the decline to weak financial planning, stalled industrial activity, and poor policy decisions.
