Madras HC issues Guidelines for E-Filings and E-Stamping amid COVID-19 lockdown [Read Notification]

The High Court of Madras on Friday issued the additional guidelines for the E-filings and E-stamping amid COVID-19 lockdown.

The notification is issued as a measure by the Chief Justice of Madras High Court to combat the spread of COVID-19 and confining the court to hearing only cases of urgent nature. The hearing of cases across courts in India is taking place by video conferencing to prevent the spread of the contagious coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and in accordance with the order of the Supreme Court of India.

The notification provides the detailed directions and steps to be taken by the Advocates and the litigants who wish to list their matter before the court for hearing via video conferencing.

The directions contained in the notification pertaining to the e-filing directed the advocate or party to email the scanned copy of the Petition or Application or Grounds of Appeal, along with the requisite documents, the scanned copy of the Memo containing not more than 200 words citing the urgency involved and the precision to make a written Arguments in the PDF format to the m.jothiraman@aij.gov.in.

“The applicable court fee and the other charges shall be remitted through the E-stamping facility by utilizing the services of Stock Holding Corporation of India Limited(SHCIL) online or otherwise. The scanned acknowledgment receipt for the said remittance shall be sent along with the copy of the Petition / Application / Appeal,” the notification said.

The directions contained in the notification pertaining to the e-stamping directed the advocates or parties to remit court fee and other charges that are payable to the appeals or petitions or applications so far filed through the email and Registered by the Registry i.e. from March 26, 2020, to April 17, 2020, within two weeks from the date of the regular court functioning.
