In an anticipatory move, the Manipur government, led by Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, has resolved to table a crucial amendment bill related to the Goods and Services Tax ( GST ) during the forthcoming assembly session starting on February 28. The decision emerged from a recent cabinet meeting presided over by Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, with State Information and Public Relations Minister Sapam Ranjan making the announcement.

Key Points to Be Addressed in the Assembly Session

The focal point of the assembly session will be the introduction of the Manipur Goods and Services Tax ( 6th Amendment ) Bill, 2024. Simultaneously, the session will delve into budget-related matters, encompassing discussions on the Comptroller and Auditor General of India’s reports and revised estimates for the 2023-24 budget. Additionally, the budget estimates for the fiscal year 2024-25 will be presented to the House. The assembly session is expected to span until March 5.

Judicial Pay Commission Recommendations Implementation

In a significant move, the cabinet has given the green light to implementing the recommendations of the Second National Judicial Pay Commission. This entails the disbursement of allowances to the Manipur judicial service, effective from January 1, 2016, aligning with a directive from the Supreme Court.

Legislative Measures on the Horizon

The council of ministers has also resolved to introduce the Manipur Labour Laws Exemption from Renewal of Registration and Licence by Establishment Manipur Bill, 2024, during the assembly session. Furthermore, the cabinet has sanctioned the direct acquisition of 3.77 acres of land in Imphal East district for the establishment of an automated testing station.
