The Central Board of Indirect Taxes & Customs (CBIC) has issued an order requiring all Customs field formations in India to stay open on March 29, 30, and 31 of 2025. For customs operations, these days will be regarded as official working days.
Under Secretary (Cus IV), Sanjeet Kumar, issued the announcement, which explains that the decision was made to ease trade and commercial activities and to guarantee the seamless operation of Customs services. To ensure compliance, all senior officials, including Principal Chief Commissioners and Chief Commissioners, have been directed to inform the officers and staff under their supervision of this.

Businesses, importers, and exporters should benefit from this action as it is anticipated to reduce delays in customs clearance processes at the end of the fiscal year. The Competent Authority has approved the directive’s issuance.
Industry stakeholders have welcomed the decision, stating that extended working days will prevent delays in import-export clearances and contribute to efficient trade facilitation. March 31, 2024, a Sunday, March 30, a Saturday, and March 29, Good Friday, a public holiday, mark the end of the fiscal year 2023–2024. This results in three consecutive days off from work during the final week of March, making it a long weekend.
