The Department of Consumer Affairs, under the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, has invited applications for the appointment of two members in the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC).
This commission plays a pivotal role in protecting consumer rights by handling cases involving deficiency in services, unfair trade practices, and product liability disputes at the national level. NCDRC is the apex consumer forum in India, established under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019, and ensures timely and effective redressal of consumer grievances across sectors.
Role of NCDRC Members
NCDRC members hold quasi-judicial authority and are responsible for adjudicating complex consumer disputes, particularly those involving high-value claims. The decisions rendered by the Members are instrumental in shaping consumer protection policies, set legal precedents, and influence business ethics by ensuring corporations and service providers adhere to fair trade practices.

The NCDRC, headquartered in New Delhi, plays a critical role in consumer rights enforcement. It hears appeals against State Consumer Commissions’ decisions, ensuring that businesses and service providers adhere to fair trade practices. NCDRC resolves disputes concerning defective goods, deficient services, unfair trade practices, and misleading advertisements.
The National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission also hears appeals from state consumer forums, in a bid to ensure consistency and justice in consumer laws nationwide.

Eligibility Criteria and Qualifications
As per Rule 3(12)(b) of the Tribunal (Conditions of Service) Rules, 2021, candidates must meet specific eligibility criteria to apply for the position of Member in the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC).
Applicants should either be a sitting or former High Court Judge or have served as a District Judge and Additional District Judge for a combined period of at least ten years. Alternatively, individuals with a minimum of 25 years of experience in fields such as law, finance, economics, business, commerce, accountancy, management, industry, public affairs, or administration are also eligible. Additionally, candidates must be at least 50 years old as of the last date of submission.

Application Details
Interested and eligible candidates must apply online only via the official Department of Consumer Affairs website at https://jagograhakjago.gov.in/ncdrc. Refer to the FAQs published by the Department to know how to Apply.
The last date to submit applications is April 23, 2025.
For serving Government Officers, PSU employees, and Autonomous Body personnel, a duly signed physical copy of the application must be sent through the proper channel to:

Retired officials shall mandatorily submit a No Inquiry Certificate from their last employer as well.
Selection Process
The selection of members will be conducted by a committee constituted under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019 and shall involve screening applications, interviews, and assessment of the candidates’ expertise in consumer rights and legal frameworks.

Important Note:
Candidates appearing for interviews for the position of Member in the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC) will not be entitled to receive Travel Allowance (TA) or Dearness Allowance (DA).
Applicants must also ensure that their submissions are complete and submitted within the stipulated deadline, as late or incomplete applications will not be considered under any circumstances. Furthermore, the Department of Consumer Affairs retains the discretion to modify or cancel the recruitment process at any stage without prior notice, should the need arise.
