The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has issued a notification conducting changes to the composition of the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority ( APEDA ). The notification, numbered S.O. 857(E) and published in the Official Gazette on February 17, 2025, replaces three existing members with newly appointed Members of Parliament.

The APEDA was established in 1986 under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India to promote the export of agricultural and processed food products, and plays a crucial role in policy formulation and export facilitation. The inclusion of these parliamentarians by virtue of this Notification aims to strengthen its decision-making processes and ensure legislative representation in matters concerning agricultural exports.

This amendment is made under Section 4 of the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority Act, 1985 (2 of 1986), read with Rule 3 of the APEDA Rules, 1986. The changes are made to the original notification S.O. 486(E) dated August 12, 1986, which was last amended via S.O. 1431(E) on March 16, 2024.

The notification, signed by Rajesh Agrawal, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Commerce and Industry is another step towards the government’s continued efforts to refine the constitutional structure of the APEDA all the while reinforcing India’s position as a key figure ini the global agricultural trade strategy.
