Mr. Nitin Gupta IRS takes over as CBDT Chairman

Shri Nitin Gupta, an Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer of the 1986 batch of the Income Tax cadre takes over as Chairman of the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) from June 27th, 2022.

After incumbent JB Mohapatra retired as the head of the CBDT on April 30, the Indian Revenue Officer Sangeeta Singh has been given Additional Charge of Central Board of Direct Taxes ( CBDT ) Chairperson in May 2022.

Mr. Gupta is currently serving as the Member (investigation) on the Board and is scheduled to retire in September of next year.

The CBDT is the upper body to frames policies and implements the tax laws in India. The Board is headed by a chairman and can have six members who are in the rank of special secretary. It is the administrative body for the Income Tax department. There are five members in the board at present.
