Gujarat State Goods and Services Tax (GSGST) reported that 3 people were involved in the fake billing of Goods and Services Tax (GST). A total of 2,725 Aadhaar cards and their associated cellphone numbers were found to have been tampered with following searches at 25 Aadhaar facilitation centres last week.

The fraudsters ran the new cell numbers that were entered, and the Aadhar cards were then used to register for GST.

The Bhavnagar Police detained three people on Tuesday for deceiving Aadhaar card holders into visiting centres where the mobile number associated with their Aadhaar identity will be altered.

The FIR stated that “People were called to the Aadhaar centre at the Bank of Baroda branch near Virani Circle in Bhavnagar and to the Common Services Centre near Chavdi Road in Bhavnagar. After their Aadhaar data was tampered with, their IDs were used to obtain bogus GST registrations”.

Also, one of the three gave needy people new mobile numbers and said they could take advantage of government programmes. Said that he would give each person whose mobile number was changed Rs 700.

Investigators claimed that the group paid each Aadhaar cardholder Rs 1,000 and kept Rs 300 as commission. The Aadhaar card holders received a payment of Rs 700. Officials with the SGST are still determining how extensive the fraud and evasion were in this instance.

Recently, the Aadhar Scam was reported by the officials in Gujarat itself. It was reported that 1500 cards were used illegally to create fake GST numbers. According to the reports from past and present, Gujarat became a hub of fake GST creations.
