The new Logo/wordmark for Chartered Accountants (CA India) unveiled by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) is under objection raised by the trademark registry.

The new CA Logo was launched by the ICAI in its 1st ever “Global Professional Accountants Convention” (GloPAC) aims to provide events of such grandeur where the global accountancy community can stay connected and ahead of the ever changing dynamics of the world. The convention aims to bring together stakeholders such as thinkers, policy makers, standard setters, industry & commerce groups and financial institutions from across the world to ponder upon and debate on the current issues and future trends concerning the accountancy profession.

Notably, in the official website, the status is shown as “Accepted and Advertised”, for the new Logo for CMAs.

In both the cases, the logos are not officially approved yet, by the concerned authority, Office of the Controller General of Patents, Designs & Trade Marks, Department of Industrial Policy & Promotion at the Ministry of Commerce & Industry.

Being a Trademark, it was vital that the process of registration is duly completed to avoid any hassles in the future. The fate of both the logos are uncertain as the Trademarks Registrar is yet to be decided.

On a side note, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) had issued a legal notice to the proprietor, who allegedly manufactured shoes bearing the “CA” Logo, seeking compensation to the tune of Rupees One Crore and a formal written apology.
