The newly appointed Competition Commission of India (CCI) chairperson Smt. Ravneet Kaur has reviewed the operational and administrative issues of entertaining the anti-profiteering matters with the officers of CCI and Director General of Anti-Profiteering She’s the full time chairperson appointed after 7 months.
The Central Government has transferred the Anti-profiteering matters from National Anti-Profiteering Authority. However till now the Competition Commission of India has not entertained any anti-profiteering cases.
Nearly six months ago, the National Anti-profiteering Authority (NAA) handed over control of the GST anti-profiteering matters to the Competition Commission of India (CCI), but since then, the CCI has been unable to resolve a single anti-profiteering matter under the Goods and Services Tax (GST) mechanism.
Analysts had cautioned that it would take some time for matters to settle down after the transfer of all pending cases from the NAA to the CCI and the creation of a special bench for adjudication.

Upholding free trade in India, protecting consumer interests, and fostering and preserving fair competition in the marketplace are the fundamental objectives of the Indian Competition Commission. The CCI is responsible for enforcing and monitoring national competition laws.
It was recently reported that once the authority is fully operating, more than a hundred orders will be issued against companies who allegedly profited by deducting customers’ advantages from the Goods and Services Tax.

The new chairperson was appointed on May 15, 2023 and sworn on 23rd May 2023. And within a few days she addressed and discussed the issues of the anti-profiteering matters which is a great step as a head of the authority.

The CCI declared that it had resumed carrying out its full mandate following the appointment of Smt. Ravneet Kaur as the new Chairperson. The hearings will soon restart and all cases are scheduled to be included in the regular meetings.
