The Unique Identification Authority of India ( UIDAI ) has implemented stricter guidelines for updating Aadhaar details and new enrollments, including corrections to names, addresses, and dates of birth. These measures are implemented to prevent fraud and enhance the accuracy of the UIDAI Aadhaar records.
Under the revised rules, even minor name corrections on the Aadhaar card will now require a gazette notification. This includes changes to both the full name and individual letters. In addition to the gazette notification, applicants must submit an identity document containing the old name. Acceptable documents include PAN cards, voter IDs, driving licences, service identity cards, updated SSLC books with photos, and passports. Aadhaar holders are permitted only two attempts to correct their names, as per UIDAI rules.

For address updates and new enrollments, the process has been streamlined. A public sector bank passbook with a photo can now be used as address proof. Applicants must also obtain a certificate from the bank branch manager, confirming that the address is recorded in the bank’s records and that the e-KYC process has been completed.
Regarding date of birth corrections, the rules have become stricter. For individuals under 18, only a birth certificate issued by authorised state authorities will be accepted as proof. Documents such as passports and SSLC books are no longer valid for this purpose.

For adults over 18, an SSLC book can still be used to correct the date of birth, but the applicant must submit the cover page of the SSLC Book, the address page, and the mark sheet bearing the board secretary’s seal and signature. Additionally, the name on the SSLC book must exactly match the name in the Aadhaar record.
