No GST on Entry Fees to ‘Protected Monument’: Govt. issues Notification [Read Notification]

It took months for the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) to make no GST on entry ticket charges to ticketed monuments. With the introduction of new tax regime, GST (Goods and Services Tax) known as India’s most ambitious indirect tax reform plan has been in the news ever since it was mooted by the government.

However, despite a gazetted notification for the same is issued on 14th November, 2017 to avoid entry ticket tax for the protected monument.

What does a protected monument means?

An ancient monument which is declared to be of national importance by or under this act is called protected monument.

According to serial number 79A and the entries relating thereto, No GST shall be given on Services by way of admission to a protected monument so declared under the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act 1958 (24 of 1958) or any of the State Acts, for the time being in force. Following this, Ministry of finance through gazetted notification omitted the serial number 11B and the entries relating thereto.

This notification shall come into force with effect from 15th of November, 2017.
