The Delhi High Court dismissed a petition seeking to postpone the Chartered Accountants ( CA ) Intermediate and Final exams scheduled by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India ( ICAI ) for May 2024.

The Single Bench of Justice C Hari Shankar rejected the plea filed by 27 candidates who requested a delay in the exams due to the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

The counsel representing the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India ( ICAI ) argued that rescheduling the exams to June would create significant disruptions. He further confirmed that the exam schedule was planned to avoid any clashes with the polling dates.

The court acknowledged the Lok Sabha polls on May 7th and 13th but highlighted the absence of exams scheduled for May 6th and 12th.

The judge emphasized the proactive approach taken by the Institute to ensure the exams don’t hinder voting rights. He placed the responsibility on the candidates to manage their schedules if they wish to cast their votes.

The court reasoned that the inconvenience faced by a small number of candidates shouldn’t disrupt the exam schedule for over 4.26 lakh aspirants. “This court is surprised that such a request has been made,” remarked Justice Shankar.

Citing the lack of merit in the petition by the students, the court dismissed it.
