Northern Coalfields Case: CBI arrests CBI DSP from Jabalpur Unit

A Deputy Superintendent was arrested on Saturday from the CBI Jabalpur unit on Saturday night under suspicion of involvement with certain individuals under scrutiny in the Northern Coalfields Ltd ( NCL ) Case. On Monday, the Central Bureau of Investigation ( CBI ) conducted extensive raids across Madhya Pradesh’s Singrauli district, focusing on officials and suppliers linked to Northern Coalfields Ltd ( NCL ) as part of the probe into alleged financial irregularities.

During raids carried out on Sunday, the CBI reportedly uncovered illegal assets valued at approximately Rs 4 crore, including Rs 1.5 crore in cash, according to sources.

Among the locations searched were the residences of Subedar Ojha, personal assistant to NCL CMD B Sairam; B K Singh, a senior NCL security officer; and Ravi Singh, a notable NCL supplier based in Jayant. While there were reports of Singh’s arrest, official confirmation is still pending. He was admitted to a hospital by Kotwali police after reportedly falling ill.

A middleman and his associate were acting as intermediaries between NCL officers and another individual who was also arrested. It is alleged that, on August 16, 2024, the middleman instructed his employee to collect an illegal payment of Rs 5 lakh from the Chief Manager of NCL. The bribe was reportedly sent by another individual. On August 17, 2024, the middleman instructed the associate to deliver the amount to a senior official.

A formal case was registered under Section 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita against the middleman, the Chief Manager, and other involved parties, including unidentified individuals. Raids were conducted at multiple locations in Singrauli, Jabalpur, and Noida, leading to the seizure of large sums of cash, digital devices, and several incriminating documents.

Ravi Singh, known for supplying expensive machinery and parts to NCL, is a significant figure in Singrauli. The raid involved 30 CBI officers, although the agency has yet to release an official statement about the ongoing investigation.

The arrest marks the fifth such incident within the CBI in the past three months, following four arrests related to an MP nursing scam investigation in May. Of the arrested officers, three belong to the CBI cadre, while two were on deputation from the MP police.
