As the Government is all set to celebrate GST Day on 1st July 2018, the cadre of Superintendent of Central Excise has decided to boycott the celebrations.

The first anniversary of GST rollout is going to celebrate by the Central Government by conducting a mega event with the participation of industry chambers, traders, and tax officials, besides, Finance Minister Piyush Goyal.

As per a letter sent by the All India Association of Central Excise Gazetted Executive Officers to the Chief Commissioner of Central Tax, Central Excise and Customs said that they, the Superintendent of Central Excise, which is the second largest cadre in CBIC, after the cadre of Inspector of Central Excise, is the most deprived cadre of CBIC.

“Several restructurings were conducted by the department; that too specifically stating the stagnation of Group B Cadres, nothing much has changed as far as Central Excise Executive Cadres are concerned. Though new cadres of Principal Commissioner and Principal Chief Commissioner has been created without functional justifications, to capture the aspirations of IRS (C&CE) officers, nothing has been done by the Board to ensure a minimum career progression to Central Excise Executive cadres. Despite all these restructurings 90% of Central Excise Inspector recruits, retires with a single promotion,” the letter said.

The letter further requested the CBIC to ignore their cadre since they do not have anything to celebrate.

“The cadre of Superintendent of Central Excise has lost all sense of belonging to this department because of the apathy and callousness shown by the Board to their legitimate aspirations.”
