Over 4.67 Crores income tax returns (ITRs) for the 2020-21 Financial have been filed upto December 27, 2021 including 15,49,831 ITRs filed on the day itself.
The department has been reminding taxpayers to file their returns for FY 2020-21 by sending SMSes and emails.
Out of the total number 2,50,66,391; 41,66,574; 50,25,136; 1,17,10,312; 5,18,433; 2,15,431; 42,972 were filed for ITR-1, ITR-2, ITR-3, ITR-4, ITR-5, ITR-6, and ITR-7 respectively.
ITR Form 1 (Sahaj) and ITR Form 4 (Sugam) are simpler Forms that cater to a large number of small and medium taxpayers. Sahaj can be filed by an individual having income up to Rs 50 lakh and who receives income from salary, one house property / other sources (interest etc).
ITR-4 can be filed by individuals, HUFs and firms with total income up to Rs 50 lakh and having income from business and profession.
