PMLA Court Convicts Forest Ranger and Wife for Three Years

The Special Court of PMLA, Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, vide order dated 29.04.2023 convicted Harishankar Gurjar and Smt. Seema Gurjar W/o Harishankar Gurjar for the offence committed under section 3 of Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002 and sentenced them to undergo rigorous imprisonment for Three years and also imposed a fine of Rs. 50,000/- on each of the accused in the prosecution case.

The Special Court also ordered confiscation of six properties under PMLA, 2002, amounting to Rs.38.16 lakhs attached by the ED. In this case FIR was registered by Lokayukta Police, Madhya Pradesh under various sections of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 and Indian Penal Code,1860. Harishankar Gurjar, by misutilising his official position (Ranger in Forest Department), Khandwa (MP) and criminal misconduct, earned income disproportionate to his known source of income which he could not satisfactorily account for.

The disproportionate assets so earned have been utilised by him for acquiring properties in his/family members name and the same were projected as untainted properties. Hon`ble Court after conducting trial pronounced the judgement on 29.04.2023.
