On Tuesday, ominous threat emails were directed at the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) as well as two private sector banks based in Mumbai ( HDFC and ICICI). The sender, accusing them of orchestrating the 'biggest scam in the history of India,' went further by asserting the placement of bombs at 11 strategic locations across Mumbai. Among the targeted sites were the RBI's New Central Building in Fort, HDFC House in Churchgate, and ICICI Bank Towers in BKC (Bandra-Kurla Complex).
The sender's accusations extended beyond the financial institutions, demanding the immediate resignations of Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das, alleging their complicity in the purported 'scam.' The threatening email explicitly stated, "We insist that both the RBI Governor and Finance Minister resign from their positions immediately and issue a press statement with a full disclosure of the scam. We also demand the government to mete out appropriate punishment to both of them and everyone involved."
