The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) issued a notification dated April 28, 2025, announcing that all regulatory applications, authorisations, and license requests must be submitted exclusively through the PRAVAAH portal starting May 1, 2025.
This is aimed at improving efficiency, transparency, and standardisation in regulatory communication between RBI and financial sector entities. PRAVAAH, short for Platform for Regulatory Application, Validation And AutHorisation, was launched on May 28, 2024, as a secure, web-based system for handling regulatory filings.

Since its launch, the portal has processed nearly 4,000 applications. However, RBI observed that several regulated entities continued to submit requests via older, offline methods. The latest directive seeks to eliminate manual submissions and streamline all interactions through a single digital interface.
Who Must Use PRAVAAH
The directive applies to all:
- Scheduled Commercial Banks (including Small Finance, Local Area, and Regional Rural Banks)
- Urban, State, and Central Co-operative Banks
- NBFCs and Housing Finance Companies
- All-India Financial Institutions
- Primary Dealers
- Non-bank Payment System Operators (PSOs)
- Credit Information Companies (CICs)
Now Entities must:
- Use the PRAVAAH portal (https://pravaah.rbi.org.in) to submit all new applications from May 1, 2025.
- Follow instructions, use available application forms, and refer to user manuals, FAQs, and help videos provided on the portal.
This move by the RBI is a step toward modernising regulatory compliance through digital transformation. By mandating the use of the PRAVAAH portal, the RBI ensures a faster turnaround time for processing approvals, authorisations, and licenses. It also enhances data integrity and promotes transparency by enabling real-time tracking and a centralised digital audit trail of all regulatory submissions.
