Renowned Senior Advocate Fali S Nariman, a stalwart jurist, has passed away at the age of 95.

Fali S Nariman, a distinguished constitutional lawyer celebrated for his contributions to several landmark cases, including the historic NJAC verdict, has left an indelible mark on the legal landscape. His pivotal role in cases such as the SC AoR Association case (instrumental in establishing the collegium system), and the TMA Pai case (addressing the scope of minority rights under Article 30) showcased his legal acumen.

In a bold move in June 1975, Nariman resigned as the Additional Solicitor General of India in protest against the imposition of emergency by the Indira Gandhi government.

Known for his unwavering advocacy of civil liberties, Nariman’s opinions on judicial developments carried significant influence. Notably, he critiqued the recent judgment in the Article 370 case, showcasing his commitment to upholding constitutional values.

The legal legacy of Fali S Nariman extends to his family, as his son, Rohinton Nariman, follows in his footsteps as a senior advocate and a judge of the Supreme Court.

The legal fraternity mourns the loss of a titan whose impact on Indian jurisprudence will be remembered for generations to come.
