GST Dept. Chennai activates Whatsapp Number for Assessees to Ease Communication

The Revenue Department, Chennai on Friday issued a trade notice wherein the taxpayers falling under the Central Jurisdiction within the State of Tamil Nadu and the Union Territory of Puducherry are requested to avail the facility of the WhatsApp number i.e. 94444 02480 for redressal of their Grievances and resolution of Queries and bring to the notice of the office of Principal Chief Commissioner of GST and Central Excise, any issues relating to GST.

“COVID-19 Pandemic has necessitated physical distancing and reduced visits to offices. As a result, many taxpayers are finding it difficult in approaching their jurisdictional offices for redressal of grievances and resolution of queries. In order to facilitate the Trade and Industry by way of an easy channel of communication, the Chief Commissioner, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry Zone have authorized the setting up of a WhatsApp Number for Centrally administered taxpayers in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry as an additional channel of communication in addition to the existing e-mail and other modes of communication,” the trade notice said.

The trade notice further clarified that while messaging, the taxpayers need to indicate their GSTIN and jurisdiction for quicker disposal of Grievances/ Queries.

Further, the notice also informed that only WhatsApp messages will be entertained and calls to the number will be disabled.

“An officer in the Principal Chief Commissioner’s Office will act as a single-window nodal officer for this WhatsApp number and will be responsible to send replies to the Taxpayers and General Public after obtaining the feedback from the Jurisdictional Officers,” the notice clarified.
