With the January 11, 2025, deadline for filing GSTR-1 fast approaching, businesses and chartered accountants ( CAs ) are struggling with significant problems on the GST portal. These technical glitches are creating confusion and delays for taxpayers who are trying to meet their compliance obligations.
The main problems are being widely reported by users:
Zero Balances in Credit and Cash Ledgers: Many taxpayers are finding that their credit and cash ledgers are showing a zero balance. This happens even when they know funds are available in their accounts. This error is confusing as businesses are unable to utilize their funds to complete their filings.

GSTR-1 Filing Errors: Taxpayers trying to generate their GSTR-1 summaries are facing error messages. In some cases, the details in their summaries are incomplete or missing entirely which made it impossible for them to proceed with the filing process.
Old Data & Crore Field: Users are unable to download old data and access the Crore field on the GST portal due to technical issues.
These issues have raised serious concerns among taxpayers, who are now worried about missing the deadline and facing penalties.
The Karnataka State Chartered Accountants Association (KSCAA) has sounded the alarm about these problems. In a social media post, they called on the GST Network (GSTN), the Ministry of Finance, and Infosys (the company managing the portal) to fix these issues as soon as possible.
“We urgently request your immediate intervention to resolve the issues with filing GSTR-1 on the portal, as the deadline is fast approaching.”

“We urge you to ensure that stakeholders can file on time without facing additional compliance hurdles.”
Acknowledging the concerns, the GSTN responded via the X platform (formerly Twitter). They confirmed that they are aware of the problems and are working to resolve them. The statement said:
“Dear Taxpayers,
GSTN hereby acknowledges the issue being faced regarding GSTR-1 summary generation and its filing. It is to inform that our team is working on it and the same will be fixed shortly. Thanks for your patience.”
Taxpayers’ Growing Worries
With less than a week to go before the deadline, taxpayers and CAs are increasingly anxious. One taxpayer questioned the situation “The front side of the coin is if GSTR-1 is not filed within 11/01/25 the ITC of recipients are disallowed. The other side is due to technical glitches GSTR-1 cannot be filed by suppliers. Now what to do? How to handle the situation??”
With acknowledgement from the GST tech team, taxpayers, and CA’s can only wait and hope for a quick resolution to the ongoing technical issues.
