The top companies are set to host 1 crore interns under the Prime Minister’s Internship Scheme ( PMIS ) by 2029.
The MCA has identified the top 500 companies based on their average Corporate Social Responsibility ( CSR ) expenditure over the past three years, said Harsh Malhotra, Minister of State for Corporate Affairs and Road Transport and Highways in his reply before Rajya Sabha.

The PMI, introduced in the 2024-25 Union Budget, aims to create transformative opportunities for one crore youth by facilitating internships in the top 500 companies over the next five years. To kickstart the initiative, a pilot project targeting 1.25 lakh internships for the financial year 2024-25 was launched on October 3, 2024.
Additionally, other companies, banks, or financial institutions interested in joining the initiative may participate with MCA’s approval, particularly to address underrepresented sectors and regions. Recently, the PMIS scheme decided to start on December 2, 2024, has been deferred and the MCA has announced that the date will be announced soon.
