The Ministry of Finance (Department of Economic Affairs) has released a commemorative coin worth ₹1000 to commemorate the 1000th anniversary of the renowned naval voyage of Emperor Rajendra Chola I, one of the greatest South Indian rulers, to honor India's rich nautical history.

Specifications of the Commemorative Coin

According to the Gazette notification (G.S.R. 494(E)), the coin will have the following specifications:

  • Denomination: ₹1000
  • Shape: Circular
  • Diameter: 44 millimeters
  • Composition: 99.9% pure silver (999 fineness)
  • Weight: Standard 40 grams (tolerance ±0.005 grams)
  • Edge: 200 serrations

On the front side, the coin features the Lion Capital of Ashoka, symbolizing India’s sovereignty and heritage. Just beneath this national emblem is inscribed the timeless motto Satyameva Jayate, meaning "Truth Alone Triumphs." Flanking the emblem, the coin bears the word “Bharat” in Devanagari script on the left periphery and “INDIA” in English on the right. Below the Ashoka pillar, the Rupee symbol and the numerical value “1000” are engraved, denoting the denomination in international numerals.

On the opposite side, an expertly created figure in the center of the design conveys the majesty of Emperor Rajendra Chola I's naval expedition. Additionally, "1000 YEARS OF NAVAL EXPEDITION OF EMPEROR RAJENDRA CHOLA - I" is presented in both English and Devnagiri script.
