A 25‑year‑old charteredaccountant was discovered dead on Tuesday at a guesthouse near Bengali Market in Central Delhi, police said. Authorities believe the young professional died by suicide after inhaling helium gas in his room.

Police identified the deceased as Dheeraj Kansal, who worked for a Gurgaon‑based firm. He had reserved the guesthouse online last week and checked in on July 28. When staff found his door locked for several hours on Sunday without any response, they alerted the Barakhamba Road police.

A team from that station forced entry and found a helium cylinder connected to plastic tubing, which officers suspect was used in the incident. Investigators learned Kansal had ordered the cylinder from an e‑commerce website in Ghaziabad just days earlier.

In Kansal’s room, police recovered a handwritten note alongside a deleted social media post. Both communications stressed that he did not blame anyone for his decision. He wrote that he felt no regret or complaint and that no individual should be held responsible. Authorities noted that the online post was removed shortly after it went live.

In the now‑deleted message, Kansal reflected that he was neither depressed nor facing any specific problems but saw no purpose in continuing. He likened his birth to the saddest moment of his life and described death as its most beautiful part, adding that he felt detached from meaningful connections.

Friends and colleagues recalled that Kansal had marked his 25th birthday just weeks earlier and appeared to be in good spirits, with no outward signs of distress. During the inquiry, officers learned that his father died when he was four and that his mother remarried. He was subsequently raised by his maternal grandparents in Mangolpuri and had no siblings.

After completing a post‑mortem examination at a local hospital, police handed over Kansal’s body to his uncle and cousins. No evidence of foul play was found, and the case has been classified as a non‑criminal death by suicide.

Anyone experiencing emotional distress are requested to seek support from mental health professionals or contact state‑run helplines and counseling centres.

Police further appealed to e‑commerce vendors to strengthen safeguards against the sale of potentially harmful products and improve verification processes. Kansal’s family has not issued a public statement as they continue to mourn the sudden and unexpected loss.

The Barakhamba Road police continue to review surveillance footage and digital records to piece together the circumstances leading up to the incident. No foul play is suspected, and the investigation remains ongoing.
