8% to 30 %, Drastic Change in Number of Women CA's in Past 25 Years
The highest percentage of female candidates enrolled in CA courses has been witnessed in the western and southern regions

India has seen a notable and "drastic" growth in the number of female chartered accountants (CAs) over the last 25 years. The percentage of women certified public accountants in the US has increased from 8% in 2000 to over 30% today. Additionally, women make up an astounding 48% of recent CA qualifiers, suggesting an increasing trend.
Eight per cent of CAs were female in 2000. This number increased to 30% in 2023. Women have dominated CA exams in recent years; 48% of qualifiers are female. This implies that there will probably be an increase in the percentage of female CAs in the overall pool.

Compared to 30% in 2019, 43% of the 8.63 lakh CA candidates were female as of 2023. In 2019, out of 2.91 lakh CAs, 73,807 were female lawyers. Out of the 3.9 lakh CAs in 2023, there were 1.2 lakh women. It's interesting to note that during the last three years, the highest percentage of female candidates enrolled in CA courses has been witnessed in the western and southern regions.
