An accountant working for a home decor company in Greater Noida has been accused of stealing Rs. 1.80 crore by misusing the company’s GST portal and uploading fake invoices, police said on Monday.
According to The Hindustan Times, the alleged fraud happened between December 2024 and March 2025. According to the police, the accused, Abhinav Tyagi, had been working with the company for nearly five years. During this time, he had full access to the company's financial records and GST login details.

The company owner, a 32-year-old woman who runs the business in the Kasna industrial area, discovered the issue during a financial audit in July 2025. The chartered accountant found that fake invoices worth Rs. 10 crore had been uploaded to the GST portal under the company’s name. These invoices were from seven different companies, all believed to be fake.
“Using the GST credentials, the accused uploaded these invoices and allegedly claimed tax benefits,” said a police official. Because of this, the company now owes Rs. 1.80 crore to the GSTdepartment.
After realizing the misuse, the business owner changed the GST credentials. She then contacted the accountant to ask about the unpaid GST and the fake invoices. Tyagi allegedly threatened her and cut off all communication.
