Online distribution of inaccurate or deceptive information about MCA (Ministry of Corporate Affairs) files is a persistent source of worry. Under the MCA, businesses and professionals who provide inaccurate or deceptive information in their filings will face severe consequences. This covers disciplinary actions taken by pertinent professional associations as well as exclusion from the MCA portal. According to news reports from 2014, this position has existed for a number of years.

The MCA relies on registered professionals, such as company secretaries, cost accountants, and chartered accountants, to verify the electronically filed documents. Strict provisions in the CompaniesAct of 2013 guarantee the filing of truthful information.

In order to combat corporate fraud, the MCA has put in place a number of measures, such as making "fraud" a substantive offence, requiring Director Identification Numbers (DINs), requiring professionals to confirm the company's information and location, and imposing reporting obligations on auditors and company secretaries.
