Bajaj Consumer Care Limited has received a demand notice from the Office of the Assistant Commissioner of State Tax, Cuttack-I, West Circle, Odisha, seeking payment of Rs. 27,23,684 in tax along with a penalty of Rs. 2,72,368 under Section 73 of the CGST Act, 2017.

The demand has been raised due to an alleged GST credit mismatch identified by the state tax authorities during their review of the company’s GST filings.

Under the CGST framework, mismatches between input tax credit claimed by a taxpayer and the details reflected in the supplier’s GST filings can result in demand notices, requiring the taxpayer to either reconcile discrepancies or pay the outstanding amounts along with applicable penalties.
In its regulatory filing, Bajaj Consumer Care stated that the order from the Assistant Commissioner would not have any impact on its financial, operational, or other activities. The company further clarified that the order is appealable, and it is in the process of contesting the demand before the higher appellate authority.

“Bajaj Consumer Care remains committed to complying with applicable tax laws and will take appropriate legal steps to contest the demand,” the company said in its disclosure signed by Vivek Mishra, Head (Legal) and Company Secretary.
Bajaj Consumer Care, known for brands like Bajaj Almond Drops Hair Oil, remains confident that the issue will be resolved without any significant financial strain on the company.
