Budget 2026: Economic Survey Expected to be Tabled on Jan 29
It is an annual document that analyses the indian economy’s performance in the past fiscal year.

The union budget is closing in and is to be presented on February 1st, 2026. For the very first time in parliamentary history, the budget will be presented on a Sunday. Economic Survey is an inevitable factor when it comes to the Union Budget. The former sets the stage for the latter.
Economic survey provides an insight into the economic trends, highlights challenges like inflation or unemployment, and proposes policy reforms, acting as a guide for the upcoming budget’s fiscal policies and allocations.
It will be presented by Chief Economic Advisor V Anantha Nageswaran. It is an annual document that analyses the indian economy’s performance in the past fiscal year. It is prepared by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and the Ministry of Finance. It serves as a crucial background document for the Union Budget and helps frame the government’s fiscal and reform agenda.
This will be presented during the budget session of the parliament, which will be kick-started by the joint address to both houses of the parliament from President Droupadi Murmu. The session will end on April 2.
The first economic survey was presented in 1950-51 along with the budget but it has been presented separately since then. The document is actually divided into two parts. Part A consists of major macroeconomic developments over the course of the fiscal year, as well as a broader review of the Indian economy.
Part B, meanwhile, covers specific socio-economic issues of the economy. The Economic Survey, at times, can also have particular themes; for instance, the 2017-18 document was known as the Pink Economic Survey, with its focus on women, and was printed in pink to denote its focus on gender equality and women's empowerment.
The union budget presentation and the economic survey will be telecasted live across multiple platforms: Sansad TV and Doordarshan will provide live television coverage. Live streaming will be available on the Union Budget website indiabudget.gov.in.
