CA. Prasanna Kumar D takes over as President of ICAI

The veteran chartered accountant has been elevated from this prior role as Vice-President during 2025-26.

CA Prasanna Kumar Dondeti has taken over as the 74th President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) for the term from 2026-27. The veteran CA assumed leadership of the world’s largest professional body of Chartered Accountants, succeeding CA Charanjot Singh Nanda, under whose presidency the Institute witnessed key regulatory and professional advancements.

CA Prasanna Kumar carries with him more than four decades of professional experience, first qualifying as a Chartered Accountant in 1984 after securing a rank in the CA Inter Examination. He also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Zoology from Loyola College, Chennai, and a Master’s degree in Sociology from Sri Venkateswara University, Tirupati.

Hailing from Visakhapatnam, CA Prasanna also represents the Southern India Regional Council (SIRC), with his leadership journey within ICAI spanning from the developments at the grassroots level, all the way up to the national levels.

He served as Chairman of the Visakhapatnam Branch during 2001-02 and later as Regional Council Member of SIRC from 2007 to 2016, including a tenure as Chairman in 2013-14.

CA Prasanna Kumar has been a consistent part of the ICAI Central Council for consecutive terms across the 24th, 25th and 26th Councils, contributing significantly to institutional governance, policy formulation and member welfare initiatives.

During his tenure as Vice-President in 2025-26, the Chartered Accountants Benevolent Fund (CABF) recorded contributions of ₹6.09 crore and extended assistance of ₹2.24 crore to families within the fraternity.He has also represented ICAI before several national bodies including the Regional Direct Tax Advisory Committee, Hyderabad and was also the Institute’s nominee on regulatory and advisory committees concerning accounting standards, corporate governance and financial reporting reforms.

In his latest outing as president, CA. Prasanna Kumar D will chair all Standing Committees of ICAI including the Executive, Finance, Disciplinary and Examination Committees and serve as Editor-in-Chief of the Institute’s journal, The Chartered Accountant. He will also head ICAI’s research and development arms such as the Accounting Research Foundation (ICAI ARF) and XBRL India, besides overseeing key welfare funds of the profession.

On the global front, CA Prasanna Kumar continues to represent ICAI at global forums, including the South Asian Federation of Accountants (SAFA) and also serves as Technical Advisor at international accounting bodies.

Beyond his professional commitments, he is also recognised as a passionate volleyball player and an active supporter of state-level sports initiatives.
