CA Requests ICAI for Postponement of Examination in Punjab amidst Flood Crisis
CA Himank Singla’s advocacy draws attention to the fact that these circumstances are beyond students’ control, and postponement of exams is urgently needed to ensure their academic futures are not compromised.

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) is being earnestly requested by CA students in Punjab to consider postponing the upcoming examinations due to the ongoing severe flood crisis affecting the state.
This appeal, brought to light by CA Himank Singla, highlights the overwhelming challenges faced by thousands of aspirants as relentless rains have submerged over 1,300 villages, disrupted transport, and forced educational institutions to close until September 3, 2025.
The unexpected floods have left a devastating impact on Punjab’s landscape and people, with more than 2.5 lakh residents affected and large-scale evacuations carried out by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Border Security Force (BSF), and Indian Army. Major transport routes remain submerged or damaged, making travel to examination centers nearly impossible for many students. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued multiple red alerts forecasting continued heavy rainfall, prolonging the crisis.
In this context, students preparing for the ICAI examinations are caught in a distressing situation, facing difficulties not only in safely accessing exam venues but also in maintaining focus amid evacuations, flooded homes, and institutional closures. CA Himank Singla’s advocacy draws attention to the fact that these circumstances are beyond students’ control, and postponement of exams is urgently needed to ensure their academic futures are not compromised.
Punjab's government has already suspended all school, college, and university operations until early September, underscoring the gravity of the situation. Many private educational bodies have also aligned with these safety measures, recognizing the need to prioritize student well-being over academic schedules during such natural catastrophes.
The plea to the ICAI calls for a compassionate and equitable response, reflecting the institute’s values of fairness and student support. Postponement or extension of exams would give aspirants the opportunity to prepare and perform under safer, more stable conditions, rather than under distress and displacement.
As Punjab continues to battle this severe flood emergency, the combined efforts of state authorities, relief teams, and institutions like ICAI are crucial in safeguarding not only lives but also the futures of young professionals aspiring to contribute to the country’s economy.
This appeal from Punjab’s CA community stands as a touching reminder of the human cost of natural disasters and the importance of empathetic policies from academic and professional bodies during such times.
