A Chartered Accountant has warned taxpayers to be cautious about the “Rs. 24 ITR Filing” scheme promoted by JioFinance in partnership with TaxBuddy.

CA Harsha Vardhan Navle shared his experiences in a LinkedIn post that is now gaining wide attention. He said that the advertisements make it look like anyone can file their Income Tax Return for just twenty-four rupees but the reality is very different.

According to him, several users have ended up paying more than the advertised fee. He said that bills and chats he reviewed showed that there are extra charges beyond the Rs. 24 filing cost.

To support his claim, Navle shared screenshots of actual conversations with the JioFinance-TaxBuddy chatbot. After entering an income of five lakh rupees, the chatbot offered two plans.

The first was Rs. 199 per year with notice management and the second was Rs. 99 per year without notice management. This is very different from the advertised Rs. 24 filing cost.

This type of ITR filing service may only help people who already have some basic knowledge about taxes. In my view, unless you can clearly tell the difference between what is right and what is misleading, it will be very difficult to decide whether to trust such platforms or not.

If you are new to filing Income Tax Returns, it is much safer to seek guidance from professionals or learn through trusted YouTube channels and official Income Tax guides. This way, you can avoid mistakes that may lead to demand notices from the Income Tax Department.

Many Chartered Accountants across the country have raised serious concerns about the risk of personal data being exposed through such platforms and are calling for stronger regulation by the authorities. The big question is whether this practice is ethically right or wrong, because mishandling such sensitive data could create serious problems in the near future.
