The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a Superintendent of CGST and Central Excise, Nashik Commissionerate, for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs. 5 lakh from a complainant. The arrest took place on October 14, 2025, following a successful trap operation laid by the CBI outside the accused’s office in Nashik.
According to a CBI statement, the case was registered on October 14, 2025, based on a complaint that the accused officer had initially demanded an undue advantage of Rs. 50 lakh from the complainant. The bribe was allegedly sought to avoid taking legal action in connection with an IGST input matter related to a private company. The amount was later negotiated down to Rs. 22 lakh.
The accused reportedly instructed the complainant to deliver Rs. 5 lakh on October 14, 2025, and the remaining Rs. 17 lakh on October 17, 2025. Acting on this information, the CBI set up a trap and caught the officer red-handed while he was accepting the bribe amount from the complainant outside his office. The officer was immediately taken into custody.

The seized materials are being examined for additional evidence that may help uncover the full scope of the alleged corruption.
The arrested officer was produced before the jurisdictional court in Pune on October 15, 2025. After hearing the case, the court remanded the accused to police custody for two days, till October 17, 2025, to facilitate further investigation.
