CBI Arrests Mumbai GST Officer for Accepting Rs. 5L Bribe, Threatens Fabrication of Rs. 98L Tax Demand
The agency also conducted a search at his residence in Mumbai and uncovered an unaccounted and unexplained cash of Rs. 18.30 lakhs. They also identified a purchase deed of Rs. 40.315 lakhs from the residence itself.

The Central Board of Investigation ( CBI ) has arrested a CGST ( Central Goods and Services Tax ) officer who conducted an audit of a private company for accepting bribes of Rs. 5 lakhs and also threatened to fabricate Rs. 98 lakhs tax demand.
The incident happened on 22nd December 2025 and the case was registered with the investigation agency on the same day by the company representatives.
A written complaint was received to CBI from the private company alleging the threat and the bribe by the CGST officer. The officer conducted the audit in the private company on 26th November 2025 and demanded for the illegal gratification.

Later negotiations on the gratification, the company agreed to pay Rs. 17L in exchange of reducing the GST liability. The 1st part, Rs. 5 lakhs was given on 22nd December 2025. However, the officer walked into the trap of the CBI and he was caught red-handed.
The agency also conducted a search at his residence in Mumbai and uncovered an unaccounted and unexplained cash of Rs. 18.30 lakhs. They also identified a purchase deed of Rs. 40.315 lakhs from the residence itself.
Additionally, they also found property deeds worth 32.10 lakhs dated June 2024 during the search.
The CBI also searched his office premises and also seized digital evidence of the audit report prepared by the arrested officer for the private company. The CBI has said that the investigation is going on.
