The bribe was solicited in exchange for the release of a previously seized amount of ₹13 lakh, which had been confiscated from the complainant’s brother-in-law at the airport. The money had been reported to the Income Tax Department for further action.

The CBI laid a trap and apprehended the officials in the act of accepting the bribe. The entire amount of ₹2 lakh was recovered during the operation. The bribe money was reportedly collected at the direction of the accused Assistant Director (IRS), and on his behalf.

In connection with the case, searches were also conducted on the same day at three different premises belonging to the accused individuals in Patna. During the course of these searches, officials seized documents and evidence linked to the bribery allegations.

All three arrested persons were produced before the CBI Special Court-1, Patna, and were remanded to three days of CBI custody for further interrogation and investigation.

The agency confirmed that further investigation is ongoing to ascertain the full extent of the conspiracy and identify any other persons involved.
