The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has unearthed massive assets and investments linked to the arrested Executive Director and Regional Officer of the National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), Guwahati, who was caught red-handed on October 14, 2025, while accepting a bribe of ₹10 lakh from a private individual.
According to a CBI statement, searches were conducted at multiple locations, including Guwahati, Ghaziabad, and Imphal, following the arrest. The raids led to the recovery of unaccounted cash worth ₹2.62 crore, along with voluminous documents evidencing investments in high-value immovable and movable assets spread across several cities.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused and his family members had investments in nine premium apartment units, one premium office space, and three residential plots in Delhi-NCR; one luxury apartment and a residential plot in Bengaluru; four apartments and two residential plots in Guwahati; and two homestead plots along with one agricultural land parcel in Imphal West.
Additionally, CBI officials seized documents related to six high-end luxury vehicles, two expensive watches worth several lakhs, and a 100-gram silver bar. Many of the properties and investments, officials noted, appeared to be undervalued and are currently under verification.
A bribery case was registered based on specific source information indicating the involvement of the NHIDCL officer and two representatives of a private company in corrupt dealings. CBI laid a trap on October 14 and apprehended the public servant while allegedly accepting the ₹10 lakh bribe for issuing a favourable extension of time (EOT) and a completion certificate for a highway project, the four-laning of National Highway-37 between Demow and the end of Moran Bypass, among other works in Assam.
Both the NHIDCL official and the private individual were produced before the Special Judge for CBI cases in Guwahati, who remanded them to three days of police custody.
The investigation is ongoing to trace the full trail of assets and possible involvement of other individuals or entities in the alleged corruption network.
