The LIMBS is a web-based application developed by the Department of Legal Affairs, Ministry of Law & Justice, Government of India, to track and manage court cases in the Union of India, which is made up of many different ministries and departments, including CBIC. It intended to improve litigation procedures, consolidate legal data, and allow effective case monitoring.

To manage its numerous court cases pertaining to customs, GST, and other indirect taxes, the Directorate of Legal Affairs (DLA) under CBIC has been actively involved in the implementation and use of LIMBS.

The Department of Revenue's Joint Secretary (Revenue) serves as LIMBS's Nodal Officer. The nominee for LIMBS project coordinator is the Commissioner of CBIC's Directorate of Legal Affairs (DLA). It is the duty of CBIC field formations (Commissionerates) to upload and update cases pertaining to High Courts and Tribunals.

Through the creation of a uniform database and data integrity assurance, LIMBS implementation assists CBIC in digitizing legal cases for efficient and proactive monitoring. Data-driven decision-making in legal problems is made possible and the reliance on physical files is lessened.

LIMBS is a key component of the Indian government's e-governance initiatives, which are given a lot of interest. The goals of "Digital India" and "Minimum Government, Maximum Governance" fall in accord with the effective implementation by key departments like CBIC.

CBIC's widespread usage of LIMBS and their acknowledged attempts to adopt it, along with its significance to government litigation, make it not surprising that they were recognized for their excellent implementation. Usually, departments that employ these digital platforms with high levels of efficiency, data correctness, and proactive management receive these honors.
