The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has extended the use of ICETABs (ICEGATE Tablet-based Examination) to export consignments, with effect from June 19, 2025.

This follows the successful nationwide implementation of ICETABs for import examination, as initially outlined in Board Circular No. 10/2024-Customs dated 20.08.2024. The use of ICETABs for exports aims to make export examination faster, paperless, and more transparent.

This implementation removes the need for physical paperwork during the examination process by giving examining officers at export sheds instant access to RMS (Risk Management System) instructions, supporting documentation, and full shipping bill details on ICETAB devices.

The key highlights provided by the board in ‘X’:

  1. Helps in efficient export examination and faster clearance
  2. Promotes paperless documentation for export examination
  3. Real-Time examination reporting and imaging

Additionally, officers can submit up to four photographs of the cargo being checked, capturing important characteristics of the consignment, and promptly record examination reports. These images will be saved in the e-Sanchit repository for future use.

It is anticipated that the move will extremely reduce processing time and promote real-time digital reporting, making it easier for Indian exporters to run business.

According to the CBIC, examining officers must get prior permission from the relevant Assistant Commissioner and enter the reason in the system in unusual situations where using the ICETAB is not practical.

A detailed operational advisory for the use of ICETABs in export examination will be issued shortly by the Directorate General of Systems (DG Systems).
